I’ve arrived in Ibiza and I have some photos of my journey I’d like to post, but before I do I’m really excited to share these behind-the-scenes images of Semana Santa. Easter is huge in Spain and Good Friday on the island ends with a sombre but beautiful Holy procession through the streets of D’alt Vila.

I helped an older lady and member of the marching band carry her heavy drum from Ibiza Town all the way to the cathedral at the top of D’alt Vila. I chuckled at her frequent exclamations of “Madre Mia!” whilst we slowly made the steep climb to the top. Eventually we arrived, and after a hug and some cold water I found myself in the perfect spot to capture some getting-ready photos of the band and the many volunteers who help to carry the extremely heavy and cumbersome statues over the cobbles. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into the moments before Ibiza’s Semana Santa 2016.
