An Ibiza Wedding Behind The Scenes With LoveFoodIbiza
As a newly-minted Ibiza Wedding Photographer I’ve spent a majority of my 2016 island-time meeting with wedding planners; event organisers; venue-owners and industry experts. This of course in between flying back for my wedding commitments in the UK, so I haven’t spent a lot of time at Ibiza Weddings in 2016.
A few weeks ago my buddy, girl-boss and the power behind LoveFoodIbiza, Tess Prince, invited me to shoot her food antics behind the scenes at an exclusive Ibiza Wedding. I jumped at the chance. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings and worked alongside many caterers, but I’ve never had the chance to spend much time in the kitchen. I was curious to see what goes into the creation of the wonderful food on an Ibiza Wedding day.
Tess & her Lovefoodibiza Dream Team were catering for a guestlist of 60. Quite intimate for an Ibiza Wedding. I imagined a relaxed day in the kitchen, tasting some great food, with plenty of time to shoot some photographs. Boy was I wrong about that. Except for the food part.
The sheer amount of work that goes into producing the food for a wedding is staggering. Even for a smaller wedding such as the one I witnessed. The work started well in advance of the day, with Tess dreaming up ideas and flavours for her dishes. On the day itself there was so much thought and creativity placed into the food design; table-planning; even the labelling. With a strong focus on fresh, local ingredients, most of the prep work was undertaken on the day. No mean feat. And of course Tess executed everything to the highest standard under enormous time pressures. No detail was overlooked. Tess and the LovefoodIbiza team have a strong work ethic, infused with the Balearic spirit.
Suffice to say every single guest fell in love with the food. Some of them over and over.
I’m proud of these photographs. I managed to capture them under difficult circumstances, with very little time. Tess has a huge personality so she made my job a little easier by shining bright in the portraits, and the food speaks for itself. The hors d’oeuvres alone had me smacking my lips. Chorizo, Prawn & Padron Pepper Skewers? Yes please. Wild Mushroom Rolls with Ibiza Sea Salt? I’m not a fungi-guy, but those mushrooms were the creamiest, tastiest things I’ve ever eaten. Jamon Iberico with Mascarpone, Prunes & Walnuts? I could dedicate a whole blog post to those little parcels. I’ve been dreaming about them ever since.
Just take a look at that buffet table.
And don’t get me started on dessert. A brownie tower to die for.
I’m too hungry to write any more. Off to get a bite.
